Friedrich Engels was a German social critic, philosopher, author, and historian who, along with pioneering works such as "The German Ideology" (1845) and the "Manifesto of the Communist Party" (1848), is considered the father of Marxism alongside Karl Marx. He was born on November 28, 1820 in Barmen (now Wuppertal) and died on August 5, 1895 at age 74 in London. 2020 marks his 200th birthday.
